--Team Gnarly just concluded a very successful "Hurricane Irene" clinic in Moriches on Long Island, NY. The clinic was run by coaches Marek Valasek and Rio Gordon. Gnarly welcomes back Marek who was our very first Head Coach. The team had a great four days of training once the hurricane passed through.

--Gnarly joined forces with Team FOR from Florida at the Scotiabank Regatta in St, Thomas. The sailors were treated to beautiful beaches, strong winds and big ocean waves. Great job by Ariana, Antonia, Connor and Ryan.

-- The team traveled to the Buffalo Canoe Club for the USODA Great Lakes Champs June 18 & 19. 8 races were sailed over the two days in light wind. The Canoe Club were great hosts and PRO Ron Hopkins did a great job getting the races off. The team had some outstanding results. Overall the highlights were JC Hermus 9th, Mehvish Khan 11th, Emma White 12th, and Chrissie Klingler 18th. JC was also the 1st white fleeters joined in the top five by Tomas Rice and Walter Henry. We dominated the female division with 1st through fourth being Mehvish, Emma, Chrissie, and Sebby Turner. The following sailors qualified for Team Trials 2012: JC, Mehvish, Emma, Chrissie, Will Gallagher, and Gray Benson. Nice job everyone.

-- Congratulations to the 14 Gnarly sailors who raced at San Francisco Yacht Club for the 2011 USODA Team Trials. It was a long tough week in San Francisco but the team worked hard and came out with some solid results. Our top finisher was Alexander Hanna in 30th. JC Hermus was the top White Fleeter in 70th (39 places ahead of the 2nd White Fleeter). 8 of 14 in top 100 boats, and 4 more just outside. Also, congrats to Gerard, 59th, Emma, 60th, and Mehvish, 66th. Very impressive showing by all of our first time Trials sailors that did so well. A very big thanks to coaches Peter and Soren who lead the team.

-- Several members of the team headed down to Clearwater, FL for the inaugural Team FOR Invitational, hosted by Clearwater Community Sailing Center. The regatta was limited to Team Trials Qualified sailors, which lead to some great competition. Sailors, coaches, and spectators were all impressed with how tight the racing was. Like at Team Trials, very small mistakes lead to significant losses. Ryan(15th), Mehvish (21st), Connor, Sebby, and Ariana, all gained a lot in preparation for Team Trials.

-- Gnarly Sailors just finished up a great week in training in Clearwater. Ryan, Connor, Gerard, Mehvish, Sebby, Antonia, Chrissie, Elizabeth, and Dave Hein along with guest sailor and honorary Gnarly Alex were treated to beautiful sailing out of Clearwater Community Sailing Center. The sailors had three days of joint practice with Team FOR and their guest coach Danielle Soriano including a mini regatta on the third day in 15 knots and nice waves in the Gulf of Mexico.

Gnarly Green (Emma, Mehvish, Gerard, Ryan) finiashed third in silver while sailing with only three sailors for the first day. Great sailing all around.

-- The team had a great clinic and regatta in Miami over the holidays. Head Coach, Peter Strong, led a clinic before Christmas where the kids had some excellent practice. The highlight probably was the long sail to Stiltsville on the far side of Biscaynne Bay. The team had a good regatta in difficult conditions. The first day was 20+ knots of wind which then died down for the remainder of the regatta. Congrats to Ryan (23rd overall and 9th in Blue), Chrissie (27th Blue), Gerard, Ariana and Connor who all had a great regatta. Team Gnarly dominated the White Fleet with four sailers in the top ten! Congrats to JC Hermus (3rd White), Mikey Wolman (6th White), Thomas Rice (9th White) and Jack DeNatale (10th White). Awesome job to all. Team Gnarly also had four brave Green Fleeters who all had a great regatta. Maddie, Owen, John and Gage had a lot of fun and continued to hone their racing skills. A really big congratulations goes to Maddie Rice who won the overall Sportsmanship Award for the entire Orange Bowl!! Using her French, she assisted a non-English speaking sailor
who had difficulty on the race course - it's surprising when language skills can come in handy.

-- The team had a successful trip to New Orleans over Thanksgiving for the USODA Mid-Winters at Southern Yacht Club. The sailors faced difficut conditions. Coaches Peter Strong and Leigh Kempton did a great job helping the kids navigate the challenging conditions. Results were: Emma - 35 (6th Female), Jack - 44, Chrissie - 56 (9th Female), Mehvish - 57 (10th Female), Ryan - 74, Gerard - 85(with a 2nd and 5th), Elizabeth - 107, Sebby - 112, AK - 119, Connor - 130, Ariana - 148, Antonia - 153, Eric - 181.
